Hotel Des Etrangers, Milan

Case study — Italy

Legionella that kept coming back — with no added chemicals

At the Hotel Des Etrangers in Milan, Legionella kept returning to the domestic hot-water system. The installation was old, and chlorine dosing was seen as a risk to the pipework through corrosion. In December 2017 a HydroFLOW C100 was fitted on the cold supply and a P100 on the hot-water delivery, with no chemicals added. During the initial cleaning phase, deposits detached from the pipe walls and were seen at the outlets.

How does the system help against Legionella?
SGS and ALS laboratory validation tests showed up to 99% bacteria reduction, including Legionella, thanks to disruption of the biofilm layer, depending on the site. HydroFLOW is not a disinfectant and does not replace the hotel’s water-safety plan.
Does installation affect hotel operations?
No. Installation is fully external, with no pipe cutting and no shutdown of hotel or pool services.
