The economic challenge

What’s harming your heat exchangers’ efficiency?

Israel’s water is rich in calcium and magnesium. When this water is heated in a plate exchanger or inside a pipe, limescale settles at a high rate and creates three challenges.

01

Limescale and loss of thermal efficiency

Just 2mm of limescale causes about a 20% loss in thermal efficiency. The boiler is forced to burn more gas, diesel or electricity for the same heat output.

✓ With HydroFLOWKeeping high thermal efficiency — savings of up to 10–25% in energy costs.
02

Biofilm and bacterial growth

Heat exchangers are fertile ground for biofilm, which blocks flow, accelerates corrosion and can host Legionella bacteria.

✓ With HydroFLOWOngoing disruption of the biofilm layer, 24/7, with no biocides.
03

Corrosion and accelerated wear

Electrochemical reactions in the presence of limescale and biofilm accelerate corrosion, shortening equipment life and requiring shutdowns for cleaning and part replacement.

✓ With HydroFLOWUp to 65% corrosion reduction — extending equipment life.

The solution

How does HydroFLOW help heat exchangers?

The system is installed fully externally on the heat exchanger’s water feed line — no pipe cutting, no shutdown of the heating system. An electrical signal at ~150kHz causes dissolved minerals to crystallise into clusters suspended in the water and flushed away with the flow, instead of settling as hard limescale on the exchanger’s plates and walls.

10–25%
Energy savings

Plates and pipes stay largely free of limescale, ensuring optimal heat transfer.

65%
Corrosion reduction

Disrupting the electrochemical reaction extends the life of exchanger plates and pipes.

24/7
Continuous biofilm protection

Continuous disruption of the bacterial biofilm layer, with no biocides.

None
System shutdown

One-time, fully external installation, with no pipe cutting or modification.

Types of heat exchangers

Plate exchanger or shell-and-tube — the difference matters for treatment

The two most common heat-exchanger types in Israeli industry and commercial buildings are exposed to limescale and biofilm somewhat differently — but HydroFLOW treats both on the same underlying principle.

Plate exchanger

Large contact area, especially sensitive to thin limescale

Common in central heating systems, apartment buildings and commercial facilities. The tightly stacked plates create narrow channels — even a thin limescale layer significantly harms flow and thermal efficiency.

  • Common in central water heaters in buildings
  • Sensitive to early blockage in the narrow channels
Shell & tube exchanger

More durable, but limescale affects the tube’s full length

Common in heavy industry and power plants. Less prone to complete blockage, but a limescale layer along the entire length of the internal tubes harms heat transfer over a large surface area.

  • Common in industrial plants and power stations
  • More complex mechanical cleaning due to tube length
Where else heat exchangers are critical

Heat exchangers across other industries

Heat exchangers are a core component in almost every industrial or commercial system — here’s how HydroFLOW protects them in other contexts.

Cooling towers

Heat exchangers and condensers in the cooling tower itself — combined protection alongside higher cycles of concentration.

Power plants

Heavily loaded steam condensers and heat exchangers — maintaining optimal turbine vacuum.

Hotels

Heat exchangers for hot water and HVAC — energy efficiency and guest comfort.

Hospitals

Critical reliability of heating and HVAC systems, alongside Legionella risk management.

Food industry

Heat exchangers in production and pasteurisation processes — meeting hygiene standards.

Wastewater treatment

Heat exchangers in digestion and heat-recovery systems — energy efficiency in the treatment process.

Installation process

Three steps to an advanced solution.

01

Installation

The HydroFLOW system is installed externally onto the heat-exchanger pipework, with no cutting or system shutdown.

02

Treatment

An electrical signal is induced along the entire water system — continuously, 24 hours a day.

03

Result

Existing limescale gradually breaks down; cycles of concentration can be raised and blow-down cut within weeks.

FAQ

Your questions answered

How much energy can be saved?
Just 2mm of limescale causes about a 20% loss in thermal efficiency. Keeping surfaces clean with HydroFLOW brings savings of up to 10–25% in energy costs.
Does installation require pipe cutting?
No. The ferrite ring clips externally onto the water feed line, with no cutting, welding or shutdown of the heating system.
Does the system help against Legionella?
Yes. The signal continuously disrupts the bacterial biofilm layer adhering to pipes, easing compliance with health requirements and regulatory inspections.
